The Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCRR) on April 22, 2026, notified regarding the Management of Legacy Data at CKYCRR by the Reporting Entities.
The following has been stated:
• It has highlighted that while over 112 crore KYC records have been digitized in India, significant gaps remain in linking legacy customer data across Reporting Entities (REs). These gaps arise due to multiple accounts held by customers before the CKYC system (pre-2017), mismatched identifiers (PAN vs OVD), and variations in name, DOB, or contact details.
• REs are reminded that they should not collect fresh KYC documents unnecessarily. Instead, they must retrieve existing records from CKYCRR, verify them, and link them to customer accounts. The main issue identified is reliance on single-parameter searches, which often fail in legacy cases.
• To address this, CKYCRR has prescribed a multi-parameter search approach using PAN, mobile number, Aadhaar (partial), passport, voter ID, etc., through API or bulk search mechanisms. Only if no match is found after exhaustive search should REs proceed with fresh CKYC upload.
• Additionally, REs without API integration can use SFTP-based bulk search as an interim solution, though migration to API is encouraged for efficiency.
